Faltriqueira

Faltriqueira

Faltriqueira has been played on NTS shows including Music To Ease Your Disease, with Sum Sum first played on 14 November 2024.

Faltriqueira is a female vocal group from A Coruña in Galicia, Northern Spain. Working in the melodic tradition of the pandereteiras (female tambourine players), the five young singers have developed a modern approach to traditional tunes, mixing voices with synthesisers and acoustic instruments such as fiddle, accordion, darboukas, txalapartas, cellos, and guitar.

Their main departure from tradition, though, lies in the polyphonic arrangements of their melodies as opposed to the traditional monophonic singing of Galician rural villages. Tunes like "Vamos dançar", "As sete mulleres do miño", and "De Brañas Verdes" typify the band's innovative style.

The name "Faltriqueira" comes from the pocket that can be found under the traditional costume worn for dancing.
