At least 2 persons are know as Dan Donovan, one keyboardist for Big Audio Dynamite and the other a spiritual themed guitarist.
Daniel "Dan" Donovan (born 10 August 1962) is a British keyboardist probably best known for being a member of Big Audio Dynamite. Following a brief stint in 1990 with The Sisters of Mercy he became a founding member of Dreadzone. Although he officially left Dreadzone during the development of Zion Youth, he returned in 1996.
Dan Donovan is a British singer, songwriter, and guitar player. Born in 1960 to a Welsh preacher, he produces music which uses metaphor extensively to draw on spiritual themes. bluesy, folksy, groovy, stompy, edgy, grungy, mellow music
History…
Dan was the star of The Tribe of Dan; they had a session with John Peel, which they released as "The Beeb Tapes."
The Tribe of Dan achieved cult status in the 80's Christian goth scene despite Dan's protestations that he was not a goth. Songs included "Shook up shook up" and "Cooking pot" and gigs featured displays of formation moshing in pyramid formation, venue management not permitting, and cries of "moooooose."
The album TRASHBONE THANG, released by Scottish independent label Sticky Music, hailed Donovan’s solo career. Kerrang! magazine claimed that it must have been recorded under the influence of mulled wine and candlelight.
In 1995, Donovan released DUST SHAKER, which was acclaimed in Mojo as "Funky, sinister and impenetrable".
In January 1998, Dan became completely acoustic. The English Fen dweller released his third solo album, THE LEAVEN DELL.
The Leaven Dell presented a song writer settled and comfortable with darkness and mystery that seems to have haunted this man since the initial demise of his band Tribe of Dan back in 1992.
THE HEX THE GHEARS… the fourth solo album. Now totally rejuvenated and electric once more Donovan still remains difficult to bag, but on this project he sits comfortably somewhere around The Pixies, Tom Waits and Death in Vegas.
Donovan has toured sporadically around the UK, Holland and Belgium over the next 15 years and toured as 'Dan Donovan's Gar-age' through 2003.
Donovan now tours and records as part of King Kool.
