Known as "The Tenor of samba", Noriel Vilela is an iconic samba-rock artist. He started his career as a member of the band 'Cantores de Ébano', in the 50's. His unique low-pitched voice was one of the most powerful within the group. In 1969 he released his only solo album, "Só o Ôme". It features his signature song "16 Toneladas", a portuguese cover version of Ernie Ford's and Merle Travis' "Sixteen Tons".
Vilela's music is experiencing a revival, gaining a cult status by samba-rock fans, and people interested in brazilian beats and music. His album can be easily found in file-sharing and peer-to-peer networks.
