Vincenzo “Enzo” Avitabile (born March 1, 1955) is an Italian saxophonist, composer and singer‑songwriter whose work fuses jazz, world music and Neapolitan tradition. A self‑taught sax player from the age of ten, he honed his classical skills at Naples’ Conservatorio di San Pietro a Majella and debuted in 1982 with the album Avitabile—featuring Richie Havens—that set the stage for his eclectic career.

Beyond his solo work, Avitabile is renowned for leading Enzo Avitabile & Bottari, a project that revives the medieval “bottari” barrel‑beating rituals of southern Italy while inviting global collaborators—from James Brown and Tina Turner to David Crosby and Franco Battiato.
