At the end 2012 - beginning 2013 they release 2 new songs. Band Members: Anders Høst - Vocals; Martin Hastrup - Guitar; Jacob Andersen-Usaj - Guitar; Thomas Lausen - Bass; Erik Olsson - Drums. More info: The Copenhagen quintet Opiate was formed in 2010 and consists of vocalist Anders Høst, drummer Erik R. Olsson, bassist Thomas Lausen and guitarists Jacob Andersen-Usaj and Martin Hastrup. The band delivers a technical and progressive take on the metal genre combining powerful grooves, soaring melodies and expansive atmospheres. Their critically acclaimed EP ”Reflection” from 2011 started of their journey, and the following developments have shown an undeniable potential that speaks of a promising future. The guys deliver original, powerful music with an energetic live show, which should be experienced right in front of the stage.

In 1998, two school friends Laix Jamieson and Justin Muir decided to form a band. They set about putting their plan to action and their ideas into practice; found a bassist and drummer, and Oplate was created. As the founding duo began hoxixg the band's creative direction by penning numerous tracks, the quartet struggled to find places to rehearse in their hometown Of Annan. Refusing to be battered down by such obstacles, A handful of gigs were played in Carlisle and two demos were recorded. The demos were dutifully sent out to record companies and caught the attention of Visible Noise. "I didn't actually tell the rest of the band I'd sent the demos out," confesses Laix. "So when Justin got a phone call from Visible Noise six months later, it was a massive shock."

By the middle of '99, the bassist and drummer left the band due to work commitments. Jamieson and Muir, who were both continuing with their educations at university at the time, began searching for replacements. Soon enough, a friend from university Chris Morris joined on bass and Ollie Wallace became the new drummer. Chris explains, "I was on the same course as Justin at university, so we hung around together. He invited me to jam with them as they were struggling to find a bass player and we all gelled instantly." Ollie and Chris brought an increased level of diversity to the band with more eclectic influences, adding to the group's staple musical choices that include Helmet, Tool and Deftones. The band possess a rough and raw sound which lays bare their talent, without it being swallowed up in a spiderweb of effects and over-production. "We just want to make music and hope that when people hear our songs, it has some kind of positive impact on them," Laix says. "Like Deftones have on me, inspire people to make music themselves."

Within weeks of Wallace and Morris being welcomed into the Opiate fold, they recorded another demo, which sustained Visible Noise's interest in the band. Over the next year, the band's goal became to develop a solid fan base. Their hard work and effort paid off, as the first pressing of their seven-track demo sold out at the gigs they played in Carlisle and around Cumbria. Playing some local gigs as well as organizing their own, the band were soon performing at a skateboard festival at Whitehaven Civic Hall. Here, they played just before headliners tuning to an enthusiastic and energetic crowd. "We haven't played a huge amount of gigs, but the crowd reaction is always very good," enthuses Justin. "We always put all our energy into our shows, and I think that transfers over to the crowd. People like to see a band enjoy themselves, and we enjoy every minute of this." New material that was written had a different slant on it, brought in by the newer members of the band. The songwriting had taken a giant leap forward, complimented by Ollie's versatile drumming. April '01 saw them sign with Visible Noise and take time out from their studies to concentrate on the band. This album was recorded at DEP International Studios in Birmingham, with producer Dan Sprigg (Lostprophets, Spunge, Tribute to Nothing, Suffrajets).
