Mughal moonwalk. An ancestral road trip, backwards or forwards? Bradford to Northern India to Uzbekistan. Taxi cruising for a bruising 500+ years in the making; along that silken road; bumpy smooth. Avoid pot holes. Baburnama legends a lad who took a land. The same Mongol spirit, forever nomading, now found in Brad lads, in Brad lands. One lamb's leather glove ready to spark; delicately-struggling, ferociously-yearning. Music doesn’t listen to borders; qawwali, grime, folk- ride time; Eurasian steppe horses drifting into deltas. Bass line of the drums are calling.

BPM – Seriously So, who are these cats called BPM? Just three humble dudes, who love to play and yearn to hang out with one another equally as much and who have absolutely no room for drama. Seriously! Grammy-nominated and hit-making bassist Brian Bromberg, two-time Grammy-Winning guitarist and producer Paul Brown and show-stopping and chart-topping saxophone sensation Michael Paulo (BPM), have joined forces for the first time as a unit on a recording for their anticipated and riveting new album Seriously, available everywhere on Shanachie Entertainment September 27, 2024.

While the name BPM is a play on the first initials of Brian, Paul and Michael’s first names, it also alludes to their unwavering commitment to the music, their playful spirits, their unabashed fervor to jam and undeniable pursuit of swing. “Beats Per Minute baby!” declares Brian. “We are all old farts! But we have a lot of musical and life experience that is invaluable. Combined we have well over 100 years of experience to bring to the stage and to our recordings. No ego’s, no bull, just the best music we can make,” while Paul Brown says it’s all about “really strong material and performances and hitting for the fences all the time!” BPM manages to balance this passion and unbounded joy with their superb musicianship and organic grooves on the album’s ten tracks.

Brian Bromberg, Paul Brown & Michael Paulo have joined forces to form a trio entitled BPM. Formed by the first letters of their pre-names the term also stands for beats per minute, a composer’s most accurate way to indicate the desired tempo. Their debut album is entitled Seriously and will be released September 27th, 2024 on Shanachie Entertainment. https://smoothjazzlife.wordpress.com/2024/09/09/bpm-seriously/
