This mixtape brings together pieces by artists from Peru, Colombia, Mexico, and Bolivia who use pre-Hispanic and traditional folk instruments. Many ancient musical instruments and sound objects from pre-Columbian cultures have been studied through their acoustic possibilities, opening up an entire universe of sonic exploration. Whether through acousmatic electroacoustic compositions, collective creation in improvisational ensembles, approaches rooted in orally transmitted music, or scores written for contemporary music ensembles, in all cases these instruments are much more than a return to the past — they are tools that open up new sonic perspectives.
