While Bollywood musicians have been known to borrow — and sometimes improve on — songs from around the world, the way that filmi music has traveled the globe is less appreciated. Bollywood numbers have influenced dozens of local musical styles from the Malay Archipelago and East Africa to the Balkans and Afghanistan.
