Ganga Blues w/ Symrin & Nevin Kallepalli

Los Angeles, 11.09.19

This mix was strung together by Nevin Kallepalli and features a mix of field recordings captured in Hyderabad, Telugu, Hindi, Pashto, and Somali folksongs, old Bollywood, Azerbaijani and Hindustani classical compositions, Hindu and Sikh devotional music, and the very first audio recording captured in India of a hindustani vocalist Gauhar in 1902. This compilation is bookended by two recordings of the call to prayer as heard from a hilltop in Golconda (“shepherd’s hill in Telugu), a fortified citadel that was once the capital of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, located in the western end of the Hyderabad. Within the mix, songs are punctuated by recordings made in the Qutb Shahi tomb complex.
