Focus on Blake Baxter
While the other, perhaps more well known figureheads in the first wave of Detroit techno spent the 1980s inventing new worlds to teleport to, Blake Baxter kept it down and dirty. 1988's "Sexuality", a sweat-bathed machine funk tool, featured Baxter himself whispering as if into the ears of a potential partner on the dancefloor. It was the blueprint for Baxter's trademark style, and the blueprint for a thousand stylistic imitators.
