A veteran of the globally connected avant-garde music scene, Hiromi Moritani aka Phew has been active since the late 1970s, when she was the vocalist of Osaka post-punk band Aunt Sally. Going solo in the 1980s, she began a prolific and highly collaborative career, working with Can, Jim O'Rourke, Boredoms, The Raincoats, Ryuichi Sakamoto and numerous other fellow travellers in boundary pushing music. Stylistically, her music features prominent improvisation, and aligns with post-punk, industrial, minimalism, noise and - in later years - electronic compositions. Compiled and mixed by Brian Coney.
