Afrikan Sciences: Celebrating Octavia E. Butler

New York, 22.06.22

With Afrikan Sciences

With this tribute I tried to explore a bit of Octavia Butler’s backstory and beliefs in relationships to her actual writings. In listening to scores of interviews you can pinpoint exactly how her life experiences influenced subject matter, particularly exploring the two Parable Novels. The program I put together features music from myself and various collaborations I have been involved with over the years including music from The Student Body Presents Arts & Sciences ft Sassacyprigo!, The Kebbi Williams Trio, ,AL(Saturn,Alabama)ft Zano Bathroom, the late David Durrah and Radu Ben Judah.

This broadcast also aims to raise funds for two projects: Birthing Project USA, an African American maternal and child health program which operates internationally, as well as Clockshop, a California based arts and culture organization that seeks to generate social change through the transformation of public space.
