Khaleeji Night Songs w/ TARA aka Yammmamah
This is a selection of 8 high quality records of folk songs performed by men and women in cities and villages on the shores of the Arab Gulf including Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. These songs are primarily sung at night for dance, lament or love. The selections are culminations of ongoing research into folk songs of the region through my project sawtasura or "voice of the image." They focus on complex polyrhythms and lyrical or vocal excellence. All artists featured in these tracks are deceased with the exception of Rabab.
