SHUKAI - Phonograph & Koka Records
A unique dip into the musical history of Ukraine with archival label Shukai, journeying back to the ‘90s, playing music from documentaries, sci-fi films, obscure cartoons and late-night music programming, curated by Dmytro Nikolaienko, Dmytro Prutkin and Alec Tsapenko.
From the host: "Shukai presents a mix of Ukrainian underground cassettes, 1989–1999: Kyiv’s Fonograph, a DIY tape label run out of a youth newspaper, and Warsaw’s Koka Records. Absurdist art-rock, free jazz, synth experiments, folk and noise, all dubbed, passed hand to hand and now being rediscovered."
