Sam Shepherd a.k.a Floating Points barely needs introduction. Cataloguing depths uncharted to expose some of the best jazz, soul, rare groove and disco around.
This audio expands on an older mixtape. Its title is Songs of Dissent to Fan the Flames of Discontent, and it traces a journey from labor laments and union anthems to voices of anti-capitalist critique and finally songs that have supported the movement(s) for Palestinian liberation in The Netherlands and the UK. This audio and the original mixtape are part of Field Recordings, a research project by Liza Prins and Marie Ilse Bourlanges exploring the political dimensions of a meeting between work and song.

This month’s programme celebrates invisible labour. Taking as its starting point the short film ‘Clotheslines’ (Roberta Cantow, 1981), it explores the complex landscape of work in the home. Anchored in 1970s feminist art practice and oral histories of the women’s movement, it brings into focus the social, cultural and economic value of unpaid work.
With contributions from: Faith Ringgold, Catherine Hall, Selma James, Mary Kelly and Martha Rosler.
