Time is Away - City Country City
Time is Away explores the complex relationship between the country and the city.
At the heart of the programme is Raymond Williams’ seminal The Country and the City . Drawing on art and literature, Williams shows how the entanglement of urban and rural is the crux of English self-perception and political and economic power. While admirable in many ways, his explicit focus on England falls short of engaging with the imperial and colonial histories that are also a vital part of this story.
