Immortal is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1991 in Bergen. The band was founded by Abbath Doom Occulta (Olve Eikemo) and Demonaz Doom Occulta (Harald Nævdal). Over the years, they worked with several drummers, including Grim, Armagedda, and Hellhammer (Jan Axel Blomberg), before Horgh (Reidar Horghagen) joined in 1996. Immortal emerged from earlier bands Old Funeral and Amputation, which were active in the late 1980s and included musicians such as Varg Vikernes and Jørn Inge Tunsberg.

The band’s early recordings were influenced by death metal before shifting toward black metal with the release of their self-titled EP "Immortal" (1991) and their debut album "Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism" (1992). The band released their ninth studio album, "Northern Chaos Gods," in 2018 through Nuclear Blast, marking Demonaz’s return to guitar and his debut as the band’s lead vocalist on a full-length release without Abbath.
