Hasso Akotey was involved in the Tuareg rebellion against Libya from the age of 12, as part of the Coordination Resistance Army. In 1994 he formed the group Tidawt ("Group" or "Together") in Agadez, Niger. These ten musicians and dancers set out to let the world know the full range of Tuareg culture, including their traditional guitar, tindé of ishumar.
Tidawt has performed in festivals around the world: Mali, France, Algeria, and the United States, supported through the Nomad Foundation.
