ANGSTY TEENS W/ HAMBURGERLADY
I remember turning 15, looking through my dad's record collection and stumbling upon this odd LP with a giant neon star on its cover. It was Big Star's first record, #1 Record. I had this crappy turntable, I put it on and my ears discovered a brand new world: the world of power pop. My teenage years quickly became associated with this genre. Between the heartaches of Game Theory's The Big Shot Chronicles and the fun of The Pleasers' Thamesbeat, I found a world of jangly guitars and harmonious vocals. Despite all that, what I resonated with the most was the bittersweet feeling that power pop songs carried in their sound. This mix explores almost 3 decades of power pop, from the early 1970s with Big Star and ending in the late 1990s with Fountains of Wayne.
