The World of Black Film w/ Ashley Clark
The writer, broadcaster, film programmer and author of a new book exploring more than a century of Black filmmaking, "The World of Black Film", selects two hours of music from a single electrifying period in Black cinema: the 1960s to the early 1980s.
Featuring music from Sam Waymon, Josephine Baker, Remi Kabaka, Jimmy Cliff, and many more, this show explores the era which saw Black filmmakers across Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas and Europe step behind the camera in greater numbers, creating rebellious and questioning films about politics, identity, history, love and style, against the backdrop of African decolonisation and a rising radical Black consciousness.
