These days it's commonplace to see artists straddle the worlds of music and fashion, from rappers to producers and songwriters, but Grace Jones did it first, and few since have done it so effortlessly. Born in Jamaica and raised in New York, the supermodel soon became an icon for the city's cutting edge cultural legacy, releasing albums with Island Records that blurred the lines between new-wave, dub, disco, post-punk, & pop, essentially defining 1980s cool.
