Kuduro: Electronic Music of Angola - Beginnings

In this first episode, Edward traces the roots of Kuduro from the Semba musicians of the 1970s to the nightclubs of 1990s Luanda, where Kuduro began to develop from a dance form to a form of electronic music. He explores how kuduro articulate ideas of ‘Angolanidade’ (Angolan identity) and ‘Carga’ (energy) to connect to Angola’s civil war and its aftermath
