Across film, TV, and video games, Takashi Miike's work is one of contradictions. While notorious for his lurid, violent high art like Ichi The Killer, Dead or Alive, and Audition, The Japanese director's career has moved from light-hearted family fare to road movies, musicals and more.
It's an extreme diversity reflected in his musical direction, frequently helmed by composer Koji Endo, varying from epic hyperreal spaghetti western scores to manic J-pop, bombastic heavy metal and various genre experimentation that could only be found in Japan.
