Oöphoi

Oöphoi has been played over 10 times on NTS, first on 15 April 2017. Oöphoi's music has been featured on 10 episodes.

Gianluigi Gasparetti (26 March 1958 – 12 April 2013), known by the pseudonym Oöphoi, was an Italian ambient musician born in Rome, Italy. Oöphoi's music can be characterized as being static, organic and minimalistic. It has an overall solid and monolithic feel to it, often integrated in a meditative and spiritual context. Created by using synths, singing bowls, flutes, and processed voices, his recordings have relatively slight harmonic variations. His music was recorded using analogue-only devices at The Kiva, his own studio, a 15th-century country house situated in central Italy.

In 2002 he founded the experimental ambient group Nebula, along with Klaus Wiese, Mauro Malgrande, Lorenzo Pierobon and Tau Ceti. He has released more than 30 records for a variety of labels (including Hic Sunt Leones, Amplexus, Hypnos, Nextera, Electroshock Records, Skean Dhu, Stella Maris, Aplaus, Mystery Sea, Glacial Movements), and he also run his own label, Umbra, dedicated to the work of up-and-coming Italian ambient musicians. Oöphoi also collaborated with other ambient musicians extensively, with partners including Klaus Wiese, Tau Ceti, L.E.M., Louisa John-Krol and Netherworld.

Gasparetti was also known for his role as the editor of "Deep Listenings", an Italian magazine dedicated to ambient and deep atmospheric music, where he has featured interviews with many famous ambient artists including Steve Roach and Michael Stearns.

Gianluigi Gasparetti died in 2013 in Terni, Italy, after a long illness.
