Takashi Yoshimatsu, born in Tokyo in 1953, is one of Japan's most renowned living classical composers. First gaining recognition in the early 1980s with atonal, serialist compositions like "Threnody to Toki" (1981). Yoshimatsu later became disillusioned with atonal music, opting to compose lush neo-romantic sounds taking influence from popular rock and jazz. Yoshimatsu also notably composed the soundtrack for the 2003 film adaption of Astro Boy.
