LABOUR w/ Baaba Maal

LABOUR is the duo of Colin Hacklander and Farahnaz Hatam. Tune in each month for their hour-long show featuring rotating guests and friends from Dakar, Senegal. Expect a mixture of progressive electronic music with heavy sabar drum music, classic & current Mbalax, and timeless Sufi praises. From the host: This month’s show features the legendary Senegalese singer and bandleader, Baaba Maal with a focus on his older and far lesser known albums and tracks, opening with the quite experimental “Buyal” from 1985, and going onto several tracks much more mbalax in style than his well known Pulaar and Fulani style, all here with the great sabar player Bada Seck. The 4th track here “Baaba” is especially beautiful…as is the drum-heavy “Sakam Bewdo.”
